Alan Campbell MP was presented with a commemorative builder’s trowel at the Topping Out ceremony of a landmark development for supported housing in North Tyneside.

The housing scheme in Shiremoor comprises of sixteen purpose-built apartments for adults with physical disabilities and learning difficulties, known as Bluebell Court.

The scheme, developed by specialist supported housing developer HB Villages on Earsdon Road in Shiremoor will ensure that the adults housed there will have a safe living environment. They provide on-site support and fully adaptive technology available to all residents so they are able to live independently in the community.

Bluebell Court was designed in partnership with Inclusion Housing CIC and Lifeways Community Care, in partnership with the city council’s commissioning team and the contractor Wood Group.

Alan Campbell MP said:
“I am thrilled to celebrate the completion of such a vital development. It is important that the most vulnerable people in our society can live independently and freely in a modern and safe environment. I am delighted that North Tyneside now offers these facilities.”

Mark Dyson, head of new build development at Lifeways said:
“Lifeways is pleased to be part of such an exciting and innovative development, adding to the landscape of services available in North Tyneside.

From the overall building design to the design and layout of each individual home, we’ve been able to provide high quality and adapted accommodation to ensure tenants are able to live active and independent lives within the local community.”

Neil Brown, CEO of Inclusion Housing said:
“This development is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through innovative partnership working between statutory, not for profit and private sectors. Inclusion Housing is proud to be part of this scheme and the best bit is yet to come; welcoming the tenants into their new homes.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Lifeways and North Tyneside Council in ensuring this development provides a fantastic home for the most vulnerable people in the region for years to come.”

Alastair Sheehan, development director of HB Villages said:
“Bluebell Court will help tackle the issue of isolation faced by vulnerable adults in North Tyneside and the surrounding area. It is the first step in delivering positive outcomes for those who deserve the opportunity to live their lives in the manner and dignity that they and all of us deserve.

“It will give tenants the choice to live where they want to, while providing essential care support and technology blended in the background. It’s fantastic to have completed the development and I look forward to returning and meeting the people who will proudly call it their home.”
